Wosson?

There’s heaps on this weekend in our little part of the world, so whether the weather is good, or whether the weather is bad, there is something for everyone to do!

If you’re into soccer (or football as I believe we now call it), this weekend is the time to sign up for North Shore United if you are Grade U15 or under (Midgets age 5-8 and Juniors 9-15). Muster Day is at Allen Hill on Lake Rd on Saturday 12th from 1-5pm, so get down there and sign on if you’re a budding All White! Before this, and practically next door there is a Family Fun Day at Central Landscape & Garden Supplies, with Anthony Boric, a sausage sizzle, bouncy castle, face painting, fire engine rides & prizes. Pop in first before the muster. 27 Lake Road 11-1pm

Sunday is promising to be a lot of fun at Windsor Reserve when the Devonport Folk Club display their talents at ‘Folk In The Park’ . There will be folk music  FREE at the Band Rotunda from 1-4pm, including the Devonport Folk Club Uke Troop, Michael Young and friends, Greg & Linda Whitcombe, the Alex Borwick Celtic Trio and dancing. Everyone welcome. Supported by Auckland Council, the Rotary Club of Devonport and the Devonport Community Coordinator. For more info, contact 445 9533.

The Vic has a fantastic array of films on offer, including, Secretariat (G), Fair Game (M), Tangled (PG), Gnomeo and Juliet (PG), Love and Other Drugs (R16), Marcello Marcello (PG), The Social Network (M) and the fascinating Wagner and Me (G) following Stephen Fry’s journey to the Mecca of Wagner fans, Bayreuth, and his ponderings about Wagner’s music and his connection to Hitler and his regime. Click on our advertisement for more details and times.

Speaking of movies, Movies In Parks presents ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ on Friday night  at 7.30 at Fort Takapuna and ‘Boy’on Saturday at 7.30. If you haven’t seen Taika Waititi’s classic Kiwi film about a young boy coming to terms with the difference between his fantasies and reality when his deadbeat dad turns up after a long absence, then this is a must-see. If you’ve seen it before, you’ll almost certainly want to go back for more! FREE.

Also at the Vic is Beyondsemble, a ‘genre-defying Folk, Jazz, Gypsy, Tango, Bluegrass, Celtic, Latin, Rocksteady’ quartet.  Tickets are $20 or $15 for senior citizens, students and beneficiaries. Gig starts at 8p.m at Victoria Theatre, 48 Victoria Rd, Devonport on Friday the 11th of February. Tickets available from the cinema or online at www.iconiccinemas.co.nz. Seating is limited.  Also on the music front, Corellis presents Laid Back Kool, a 3 piece jazz combo featuring Jeri Moore on vocals at 7.30 on Saturday.  For those about to rock, the Recliner Rockers are at the Patriot, also on Saturday.

At the Depot, Shirley Oxborough presents ‘Vivid Impressions’. Also showing is ‘Love and Anarchy’ a Valentine’s exhibition with a difference, and on Saturday ‘Our World Today,’ presented by the North Shore Hospice, opens with the artists speaking about themselves and their work between 5-7pm.

Have a great weekend!
