The ever-vigilant Goina Thedinga of discovered a small, shivering form on the beach at Narrow Neck last week. Closer inspection revealed the creature not to be a lost competitor from the Opti Nationals but an injured blue penguin.

Temporarily bereft of her car, Goina gave the fella to Linda, April and Luka from Art By The Sea, who duly took the little guy up to the bird lady  – Sylvia Durrant – in Torbay where he is expected to make a full recovery.

A chocolate fish to Goina and a bowl of fish to Pingu!

Inside info has it that the penguin was a casualty of the Opti races – ie it had been run over/keel-hauled. And the other comments here also suggest that boatie fun may have been costly for the wee blues. With such a long and illustrious career with Penguin, I am now worried that my speedboat may be penguin mincing. Gives the phrase P…P…Pick up a Penguin a whole new spin eh…

I saw a little dead penguin at Torpedo Bay yesterday – should we be worried?

Unfortunatley little dude didn’t make it… he only lasted for another 3 days, but at least he had shelter, food and a few other little dudes to keep him company. GT

I saw a dead penguin on Cheltenham beach last weekend. I hope those nasty sea slugs aren’t picking on the penguins now?
