Local Government Minister Rodney Hide will attend the April 19 meeting of the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board in Devonport.

Board Chair and a resident of Devonport’s Stanley Bay, Chris Darby, said Mr Hide would address the board on the recent restructuring of Auckland’s local governance and is keen to hear from residents.

“I spoke with Mr Hide recently and invited him to attend our board meeting; his enthusiastic acceptance means our board will be the first to host the architect of Auckland’s re-organisation,” Mr Darby said.

“This will be the first time our local board will formally meet in Devonport so it’s appropriate to mark the occasion with the Minister’s visit,” he said.

The meeting will be held at the Devonport RSA Hall, 61 Victoria Road starting at 6pm with the Minister’s address.  Residents will then be invited to provide their perspective and ask questions.

A public forum follows where residents can address the six-member local board on concerns or aspirations.

“Everyone is welcome to attend and we’ll be inviting local community and business groups along as well,” Mr Darby said.

The Devonport-Takapuna Local Board comprises Joseph Bergin, Mike Cohen, Dianne Hale, Jan O’Connor, Kevin Schwass [Deputy Chair] and Mr Darby.

The local board area spans from Devonport in the south to the slopes of Sunnynook in the north, taking in various suburbs including Bayswater, Belmont, Hauraki, Milford and Castor Bay, with the northern busway as its western boundary.

I emailed all the Devo white collars in their city towers, the RSA will be packed tonight! 🙂

I still think the meeting should be shifted to 7:30!..gives more Devo people, including the Devo ferry commuters, a chance to attend and air their views as well.

Boadicca – the travel may be well earned but it isn’t free. It is just that other people pay for it; not the user so appears to be free for them.

And is there any reason that these meetings are being held during working hours – is this done so that people who work (in order to provide that free travel) continue to have no voice?

  4. GB says:

Am thinking of making some rad protest signs to bring along. 🙂

Rodney Hide heads for Devo. Here we have a polly who wants to take away the well earned free travel accorded to the ancients while swilling great troughs of taxpayers’ money for his own travel and entertainment. Devo residents might like to recall the following definitions.

Hide: to keep in concealment, to keep secret and out of sight.
Hide: the skin of an animal.
    Hide-bound: stubborn, bigoted, obstinate.
To have a thick Hide: to have a nerve, to be insensitive to others.

    Devo ancients unite!

    What protest ? OMG… now what ?

  7. Grant says:

After this week’s NST article criticising Mr Hide, is this a set-up? Perhaps Greypower will be allowed to attend and express their concerns about Mr Hide’s apparent plans to cut their Gold Card access.

  8. Viv Keohane says:

Where are the protestors meeting? I heard we could get placards, who is making them?
