Local Retaining Wall Poses Potential Danger

Posted by on Aug 15, 2011 | 3 Comments

A retaining wall that was damaged two years ago in a car accident is developing a expanding bulge, according to local residents.

The wall, which runs down the side of the footpath that connects Calliope Rd to Fleet St, was damaged in 2009 when a car lost control at the Calliope Rd / Victoria Rd corner, and ended up resting on top of the retaining wall, some way down the driveway of the neighbouring house.

The retaining wall was never completely fixed, and is increasingly  protruding over the footpath. The issue was raised by a couple of attendees at last week’s Devonport Borough Council meeting, but was not discussed in the public forum.

Aw, this was a really nice post. In idea I would like to put in writing like this additionally – taking time and actual effort to make a very good article… but what can I say… I procrastinate alot and by no means seem to get something done.

Dear Mr Engine: I see you wrote this comment at 0425. This could mean you were trollied, tired, translating from another language or, all three. In fact I suspect you are a spammer, but your comment is entertaining enough to approve.

Not only is the retaining wall looking more and more lopsided on this busy walkway, but also after dark, there are no street lights- so the risk of an accident, with the uneven surface underfoot- is greatly increased. It’s just a question of time….

In other words, the wall going down Chinaman’s Hill, which is what elderly long-term residents call it.
