Thursday 24 March will be an active evening in Devonport.

Two literary events of quality at almost the same time… but not quite. This means, if you plan your time right, you can attend the first (Sue Orr’s book launch) before strolling down Victoria Road to the second (Library Associates panel of authors). Just keep your eye on Kevin Ireland – he’s involved in both!

Both are offering free drinks and nibbles as well as intelligent talk, so don’t buy dinner, buy a couple of books!

Here are the details:

6 pm AT PARADOX BOOKS, 26 Victoria Rd.

Carolyn Morgan (proprietor) and Kevin Ireland (D’port person of letters) will locally launch “From Under the Overcoat”, a new book of short stories by Sue Orr, local writer and author of the earlier collection, Etiquette for a Dinner Party, as well as children’s picture books.

7.30 pm AT DEVONPORT LIBRARY, Windsor Reserve.

A NZ Book Month function, “Books Change Lives – the story and the book”

A panel of bookish people and an emphasis on audience participation and young persons’ involvement.

Boos have a power to change our lives, our values and our futures. Personal stories of this process.

The Panel:

Prof Jim Flynn, Otago University. Most recent work: The Torchlight List; around the world in 200 books.

Kevin Ireland OBE, Patron, Devonport Library Associates.

Dame Chris Cole Catley, Patron, Devonport Library Associates.

Graeme Lay, Devonport author

Ian Free, Panel Chair.
