Joe Kemp Scores First Prize In Chainsaw Sculpture Competition

Posted by on Apr 19, 2011 | 1 Comment

Joe Kemp won the judge’s award for best sculpture at the 2011 Wood Sculpture Live exhibition, with his work Te Kete Ora.

Despite an enthusiastic but rogue cloud that dumped a generous proportion of the Pacific Ocean on the prizegiving ceremony, there was a good turnout of people to see the sculptures on the first day of their completion.

The works will now be on display until the 16th May, during which one can vote for the people’s choice of best sculpture. Voting forms are available at the Lakehouse office.

Joe Kemp is currently exhibiting at Art By The Sea; The Speculator recommends a look at his powerful work.

Check out The Speculator’s earlier story, which includes photos of the works under construction. http://www.speculator.co.nz/2011/art-in-the-making-dont-miss-it/

The gallery below is a selection of the sculptures; the Lakehouse is well worth a visit to see the rest.
