The Presbyterian Church establishment’s plans to sell St Paul’s hit another snag today when it was discovered that the Church site itself contains human remains.

A geotech survey conducted on a piece of land right adjacent to St Paul’s has revealed it to be the site of a grave, “Right where I told them there was one!” said Gail Lyons.

Gail believes it is the grave of an eleven year old boy named George Deverall, who shot himself in the abdomen with a toy cannon while at school on the 4/5/1891 and died the next day.

Two other graves have also been found, one next to the Pascoe grave and the other on the footpath. The graves have been marked with blue paint.

Yes, fantastic that George’s burial site has been located. Some of Devonport’s older resident’s were aware that his burial site was there but the little wooden fence and cross have long since rotted away. I am also delighted that others have ‘resurfaced’ – well done Gail. It’s as though those who are buried on MT Victoria are making their presence felt in order that they are protected. Amazing.

    Aren’t some people smart?
You have a tricky sale to make, needing historical research and legal clarification.
Just float it on the market, and wait for someone else to do all the work and meet all the expenses!
    Well done, Harcourts!

    Well done Gail, good work!
