A huge jumble sale of preloved babies and childrens gear in support of children affected by the devastating earthquake in Christchurch will take place at Takapuna Methodist Church Hall on Lake Road on Saturday 19 March.

The Christchurch Rumble Jumble is being organised by ex-pat Cantabs now living in Devonport and Bayswater who were spurred into action by the recent disaster. Most of the organising committee are mums and dads with young families who wanted to donate their time and skills to a cause which will aid the Mainland’s most vulnerable.

All proceeds will be donated directly to Plunket, who will use the funds to provide quake-related support to children and their families both in Christchurch, and where they have been displaced to other areas.

Organiser Sara Zwart grew up in Christchurch but now lives in Devonport. She says, “The earthquake made us feel really far away from our family and friends. The Rumble Jumble is our way showing support and doing something practical to help Christchurch families and kids as they recover and pull their lives back together.”

The Rumble Jumble is a family affair with Sara Zwart’s sister Rosie organising a similar event with a team of old Christchurch school friends on the same day in Wellington.

At the North Shore Rumble Jumble there’ll also be a silent auction. Up for grabs on the day will be a photo session, kids’ party pack, baby equipment and yoga classes. Live music will accompany the event, along with a sausage sizzle, good coffee and cakes and a bouncy castle making it a great day out for all, as well as a bargain hunters’ dream destination.

Donations of goods for the sale are being accepted at Plunket Rooms around the North Shore. Clear out your attic and donate used baby/children’s items such as maternity clothes, baby/ children’s clothes, toys, children’s books, and equipment such as buggies/ portacots.
