The sentiment expressed in our alarmist headline is something The Speculator hears all the time from some of the more concerned residents of our unique village.
Is Devonport going to the dogs? No? Well then, does it need improvement perhaps? Most residents probably believe there are some things that could do with a bit of assistance. The wharf? Parking? The arts? Public transport?
If any of these rattle your cage, why don’t you get along to discuss the Devonport – (Takapuna) Local Board Plan with your elected representatives?
This document, to be adopted from 31 October of this year, will form the basis for the negotiation of the future annual local board agreements and budgets, which will state what community projects are to be pursued and funded.
It’s all a bit too bureaucratic isn’t it? Well get over it. You have a chance to have a chat with your local councillors on the next couple of Saturdays, from 10am to 12:00 at the Devonport Library.

Local businesses are struggling, the wharf is languishing, public transport is stuttering and a part of our new generation is increasingly to be found unaccounted for on our streets at 4am. Got any ideas?
