Devonport’s crime ripple is beginning to show in the Police stats for burglaries and thefts from cars.

In the period 19th to 25th September, there was an almost unprecedented five burglaries on the peninsula, although all of them happened just north of the golf course.

However, there were also two cars broken into in the same period near the Devonport CBD.

As one of the local police liaison team reminded The Speculator; ” the police are the public and that the public are the police, the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence”. (Sir Robert Peel , 1829 ).

The Speculator has been forwarding several emails to the police regarding its readers reporting suspicious behaviour; if you see something suspicious, don’t hesitate to ring 111, even if you don’t think it’s an emergency.
