A meeting is planned for the 7th July at the Community House with local Civil Defence officials to discuss Devonport’s requirements regarding an emergency plan.
Civil Defence is keen to promote the concept of “Neighbourhood Response Plans”, which involve local residents organising themselves into specific groups to ensure they were self sufficient for at least three days after the disaster. The plan could also include identifying vulnerable community members, those who would take responsibility in an emergency, safe locations and establishing means of communication, such as “phone trees”.
The meeting is to provide more information and to get local residents’ feedback on this notion.
A public meeting will be held on Thursday 7th July, 7:00pm – 9:00pm, Devonport Community House, 32 Clarence Street.
