Car Overturns On Vauxhall Rd Pedestrian Crossing

The Speculator’s Cheltenham correspondent, known as “Ears of the East”, has an extraordinary ability to be in the right place at the right time.

This time it was early afternoon of Friday last week, where she witnessed the aftermath of a slightly bizarre car accident in Vauxhall Rd, which resulted in a car lying on its side on the pedestrian crossing at the Church Rd intersection.

Skid  marks suggested evasive action had been attempted; fortunately neither driver nor pedestrian were seriously injured.

  1. Bill says:

It is the duty of cars, not pedestrians, to drive at the correct speed for the conditions and to slow down as they approach crossings. This crossing, which I use at least 4 times a day on the way to Devonport Primary School has been the sight of a few near misses in the past. Which is why the crossing was upgraded not long ago. Children of DPS, who use the crossing a lot, are to my knowledge, not drivers!

  2. Keith says:

Interesting that the vehicle appears to be a fourwheel drive.
These vehicles give a false sense of scurity, but are known to fall over more easily than conventional cars.
Also Devonport pedestrians frequently step out onto crossings without even checking for cars and I know our two cars have bulky A pillars that cause quite a big blind spot making it hard to see pedestrians in certain situations.
Also pedestrians, most of whom must be drivers too, seem unaware that they should not step onto the crossing if there is a car between the diamond painted on the road and the crossing?
