Given the bombardment of events this summer, The Speculator is sympathetic to those who are suffering from event fatigue. However, if you have the energy to do anything this weekend it should be the 6th biennial Wood Sculpture Live event, at the historic Lake House Arts Centre.
27 Sculptors celebrate the organic nature inherent in wood with a challenging brief: create something out of a trunk of felled wood in ten days.
This event is quite an experience, in that you have 27 top artists working with chainsaws, chisels and considerable chutzpah to create 27 substantial works of art in the grounds of the Arts Centre. Among the artists are two who have featured excellent work at Art By The Sea this summer: Christian Nicholson and Joe Kemp.
For those of you who have been unable to get along thus far, The kindly Speculator has provided a gallery below of some of the work’s progress to date. As the works reach their completion this weekend, we shall continue to post photos of their progress. But this does not preclude yous guys from getting along – with the kids if necessary – to smell the sawdust, have a coffee and take in the vibe of art in the making.
It’s a great location; good for the kids with plenty of room to tear about, a nice cafe for the adults and an exhibition of some of the completed works.
And if you don’t go, and The Speculator gets wind of it, The Sporkulator will be around to ravage your vegetable garden.
