Xmas Day in Devonport

Posted by on Dec 29, 2010 | 4 Comments

The Speculator took a break from gorging itself on cakes and mince pies on Xmas Day, and flitted about Devonport for an hour or so, looking for interesting snaps. Here’s a selection.

We decided not to include the fascinating series of a couple of louths on Mt Victoria smoking what looked like a large paper carrot.

Palimpsests are about layers. You lay one person over another (with zest and not limply), and lo! memories and images of previous inscriptions are subsumed… Come along Ms Moneypenny, it’s time for dictation.

Trust Mr Bond to have a version of a palimpsest related to fecundity… – Ed

A nice collection of pictures – but palimpsest? You rubbed the parchment clean, did ya? OK, the digital images went over the top of others in your camera. But this wasn’t what you meant?

Close Mr Ian; Xmas is now but a memory – which can only be recalled when an electrical charge is fired within certain synapses of the cerebral cortex (on the direct orders of the Ghost in the Machine of course). Don’t you agree then, that photographs – as external objects that stimulate a similar reaction in the brain, thus replacing (albeit temporarily) the previous images held therein – to be an excellent metaphor for a palimpsest?
