The Vic

We held a very successful open morning at the Victoria Theatre for performing arts people on Saturday.

Over thirty people from theatre, dance, musical and school groups turned up and were treated to a fantastic morning tea laid on by our volunteers.

Board members  and manager, John Davies talked about our hopes and plans for the theatre and we released our hire rate card.

This week curtains have been installed covering the walls of the downstairs theatre and they have added enormously to the atmosphere and warmth of the space. They also cover the drab walls which we can’t paint for a year or so until the internal dampness has fully dried out.

Also this week stage lights are going up which will provide performance users with professional lighting. Thanks goes to Chris McKenzie  who has orchestrated the installation, along with our builder Paul Jervis.

This is all being finished in time for our first play this weekend – Krapps Last Tape, Samuel Beckett’s classic, being directed by Paul Gittins.

Elsewhere in the building we have new fire doors being installed, seats are being cleaned and new outside lighting is being installed.

Signwriter, Tom Smith is planning to do the first Victoria Picture Palace and Theatre sign above the front door.

And a big thank-you to the many helpers who came in on Sunday to do another clean-up – the windows are shining, the toilets are very clean and the floors are gleaming. I don’t know what we would do without this loyal band of workers.

All will be ready for our Heritage Week tours of behind the scenes at the Vic which begin this weekend.
