Hands On is a free, fun, community-focussed event giving you the chance to find out more about sustainable living.

Expert volunteers, including many Devonport locals, will show and teach you how they grow things, make things, repair things, and save energy – just for starters!

There is plenty for the kids to do and it’s all free.

Hands On is on Sunday 10th October from 10am to 2pm. You can turn up any time as there will be activities happening throughout the day.

You can also enjoy listening to local musicians, and there’ll be food and drink available.

The event manager Phil Jones says “we have had a great response from people who want to share their skills with the community. From bee-keeping to green cleaning to permaculture, Hands On is shaping up to be a great day.”

They’ll be lots of activities to keep the kids interested and entertained, including seeing native birds and chickens close up, generating electricity using pedal power (bring a bike and power a toaster!), and swapping some of their old toys at the toy swap.

Hands On is part of the Global Work Party, the biggest event to cut carbon emissions the world has ever seen. Hands On fits into this by helping our community learn skills which will encourage a more sustainable way of living, and are enjoyable, healthy, and better for the bank balance!. The Devonport event has been organised by the Devonport Transition Town group.

Phil Jones: “We hope the event contributes to a more self-reliant, resilient, connected community.”

If you want to know more about the event please see or come down any time between 10am and 2pm on Sunday 10th October.
