40km/h speed limit proposed for Devonport CBD

A review of the speed limits in the central Devonport area has been undertaken by Traffic and Transportation Engineers Ltd. Council engineers have reviewed the findings and are supportive of the introduction of a 40 km/hr speed limit zone centred on Victoria Road but also extending along Queens Parade to the Naval Base. Consideration was given to the introduction of a 30 km/hr speed limit zone on some roads but this was not considered appropriate as the affected roads are not considered to be shared pedestrian and vehicle spaces and would require extensive engineering measures to support the introduction of a lower speed limit.

The council has recommended that the Devonport Community Board endorse its proposal to proceed with public consultation on the proposed 40km/hr speed limit zone and report on the results on completion of the analysis of the consultation.
