Local Kids In Mud Hug Lark

Three young  scallywags – covered from head to foot in  mud – were spotted by The Speculator on Sunday afternoon at the Lake Rd / Albert Rd roundabout jumping up and down and shouting, while clutching and waving what appeared to be a sign of some description.

Cautiously edging closer, wary that this could be some mud-related jape waiting to be sprung on the unsuspecting, the Speculator was delighted to see that the children, while completely filthy were all smiling and waving, and were holding up a crudely rendered sign advertising “Free Hugs.”

This could be an alternative use for Stanley Park

The Speculator applauds this combination of the spirit of free enterprise and fun among the local youth, and proposes that Devonport replicate the annual Mud Day celebration in Westland, Michigan. Sponsored by the Wayne County Parks Department, the event consists of 200 tons of topsoil mixed with 20,000 gallons of water, and about 1000 children 12 and under. All hell apparently, then breaks loose.
