Devonport Artists Michelle Male and Jo Eve are collaborating with two other North Shore artists Tania Parrott and Carmel McCormick in their first group exhibition to be held at the Bruce Mason centre 1-30th November.

The four met at a sculpture retreat in 2009 facilitated by Devonport sculptor and librarian Fiona Startup. They had heaps of fun at the retreat and have carried on having fun whilst painting and promoting the show – deciding to go bare whilst painting on Takapuna Beach!

You can often meet Michelle and Jo on a Thursday 11-3 when they paint with other Devonport artists including Phillipa Bentley at Calliope Sea Scout Hall.

The exhibition opens on Monday 1st November at 6.30 p.m.  Four of the paintings will be in a silent auction on the night – proceeds to Diabetes Youth.  All other paintings will be sold at a 10% discount on the open night only. The show runs until 30th November.

Additional Information about the artists:

Michelle Male

Michelle started drawing as a child with her father, sketching portraits for friends and family.  Although she studied art for 2 years at college,  she is predominantly self taught.  Initially Michelle was captured by  the freshness of  watercolours and now enjoys the vibrancy and fluidity of oil.    Her paintings are rich and bold in colour with inspiration drawn from people and  the New Zealand landscape.  She is greatly influenced by the impressionists and endeavours to capture a moment in time when painting.

Michelle often works en plein air or from photographs  in Devonport, where she lives with her husband, two children and a golden retriever.  Michelle has been commissioned for many works for homes and offices.  She exhibits in Art of This World Gallery,  Devonport.

Carmel McCormick

Carmel feels very fortunate to be self taught and a full time passionate artist for over 14 years, painting on canvas, murals, face and body art.  Renowned lately for her art work with Air NZ Body Art ads campaign this year, Carmel also designed the front cover of Ripley’s Believe It Or Not 2010 edition.

Carmels artworks are sought after by art collectors in Dubai, USA and NZ.  She would like her artwork to be considered as an inspiration of colours, form and energy.

Tania Parrott

Tania is a successful full time mixed-media artist and clay sculptor.  She is a self taught artist, enthusiastic about creating beautiful work that feeds the soul.

Tania’s exceptional design skills have evolved from her position as  the in-house props and display artist for the Trade and Convention Centre in Vancouver.  She is also an art tutor at the Lake House Arts Centre.

Jo Eve

Jo is a talented artist and graduate of The Learning Connexion Art School in Wellington.  She has exhibited at various locations including the Deport Artspace in Devonport, Mairangi Arts and the Lake House Arts Centre.  She is passionate about the human form and her work  focuses on figure work and still life in oils, acrylics and mixed media.

How do we get in touch with individual artists about buying some of their art. I liked a painting by Tania Parrot that had already sold.

We have forwarded your email address to the appropriate person – Ed.
