Gin Wigmore has topped off a great year with four New Zealand Music Awards – but her Tui success was tempered by several surprise wins in other categories.

The soul singer won four of the six awards she was nominated for at tonight’s ceremony: Album of the Year, Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Best Pop Album, and Highest Selling New Zealand Album.

That caps off 12 months that has included her album Holy Smoke going triple platinum, and the singles Too Late For Lovers, Oh My, Hey Ho and I Do all featuring in the top 40 simultaneously. Gin is now based in Sydney, has just completed a tour of America and is about to embark on a six-date New Zealand tour.

Gin missed out in two categories at tonight’s star-studded Auckland awards ceremony, stopping her from aping Ladyhawke’s clean sweep at last year’s event.

Congratulations Gin from us all in Devonport!
